Paul Simon at Manchester Arena On His Farewell Tour
I listened to a podcast by Rolling Stones Music now which was about Paul Simon and the upcoming tour. It taked about a number of different stages in his life but the one I found most interesting was about his insecurities about the way he looks and that people thought that Art was the main man and not him because he was smaller and didn’t look like other music ideals such as Elvis.
Simon & Garfunkel where incredible together and made some unbeatable records that will always be remembered in the world of music such as Bridge over troubled water, Sound of Silence, Homeward Bound, Cecila, Scarborough Fair, Mr Robsinon, The Boxer, Only Living Boy In New York, America, Kathys Song and many many many more.
I think its a testament to Paul that many decades since he wrote those world famous tracks, he can tour the world playing his greatest hits and only a handful of the set list are songs from this area. This shows the true talent of Paul, the music he made with Art was fantastic but his solo period after was in my eyes just as successful if not more so. I know not everyone will agree with me on this but I really believe it. Paul’s, like Bob Dylan has this burning desire to change and try new things and this is why over 50 years since they started writing and singing that they are still relevant. They have evolved and changed as they and the world around them does. Simon & Garfunkel could have played the same sort of music for the rest of there life which I am sure would be a commercial success but I feel that Paul wanted more than that and his music over the years reflects his desire to improve. The podcast covers this in more detail.
