Bob Dylan – Berlin 2019

Berlin 2019

This week I went to Berlin for 3 days with my dad to see Bob Dylan. We’ve seen Dylan many times and when the 2019 tour was announced, we decided to come back to Berlin. We’ve had some fantastic gigs in Berlin before with Paul Simon & Sting, Leonard Cohen, and Sting on his own so we thought it would be good to add Dylan to the list… and he did not disappoint.

This was the 10th time that I’ve seen Bob Dylan Live, the first time was in June 2011 in Cork at Live at the Marquee.

Normally my favorite tracks of Dylan’s live performances over the past few years are the tracks from Moden Times, Tempest, Time Out of mind and Blood on the Tracks. But on this performance the stand out tracks where ‘When I Paint My Masterpiece’ and ‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right’. The band played quietly while Dylan played these classics songs in the new style of his performance.

The rock and roll elements were still there with Like a Rolling Stone as the crowded were engaged and loving the newly remastered version of the track.

Dylan played on the harmonica for at least 4 of the tracks, every time he picked it up to play you could feel the excitement in the audience and they were very appreciative by clapping every time he played it. Hard to believe that the man playing before you was 76 years old, he was as good as what I would have imagined he would be like if you some him in the early ’60s.
